Commission Grants

Co-op Press Fund Commission Assistance Grant
The Co-op Press Fund was established in 2000 as a means of encouraging performers to experience the excitement of collaborating with composer Sy Brandon.  The Commission Grant has been revived after a hiatus for working with Commission Consortia from 2015-17. To date, over fifty grants have been awarded.
Purposes of the Grant:
To encourage performers at all levels of development (elementary performing ensemble through professional) to experience the value of working closely with a composer.

To cultivate audiences for new music by having both the performers and audience experience the excitement of a premiere.
Benefits for the Performer(s):
The performers will receive a composition composed especially for them.

The performers will have premiere rights to the composition for one year following the completion date.

The Performer will receive free interaction with the composer via email, FaceTime, Skype, and Sy Brandon's Composing Insights blog. In some cases, Sy Brandon may be able to attend your performance.
Application Process:
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Notification of awards usually occurs within two weeks after the application is received.

Apply online.
A panel of judges will evaluated each application and base its decision on the following:
Accomplishments of the performers

Type of interaction proposed.

The significance of the premiere.
Responsibilities of the Performers:
Premiere the composition within one year of the date of completion.

Notify the composer of additional performances.

Send a copy of the printed program for all performances.

Provide Sy Brandon with a rehearsal recording of his composition at least two weeks prior to the premiere performance for the composer's input.

Provide Sy Brandon with a high quality recording of the performance within three months of the premiere.

Promote the premiere in the media.
